Col. Arthur Axford OBE TD DL


Arthur hails from Ashton-Under-Lyne and was educated at the local Grammar School.  He join the armed forces in 1939 becoming a member of The Manchester Regiment with whom he served until 1946.  During the Korean War Arthur served in the Royal Ulster Rifles from 1950-52 and then in the 9th Battalion, The Manchester Regiment (TA) from 1952 until 1964 when he became the Deputy Commander 127 Brigade (TA) (1964-70); he was Commandant, East Lanes ACF (1970-74); Hon Colonel, East Lanes ACF (1980-85).

Arthur is Vice President and Fellow of the Institute of Quality Assurance and Greater Manchester County Vice-President of SSAFA. He was awarded the MBE in 1958; OBE, 1964, TD, 1964, and ADC to HM Queen (1965-70.  Arthur was High Sheriff of Greater Manchester in 1987-1988. He is married to Flora and he lists Golf as one of his principle interests.
