Major J Rodney Cadman TD JP DL FCIOB
Rodney was born in 1933 in Eccles, Manchester. He was educated at Moorside County Infants School, Manchester Grammar School and Manchester College of Technology (U.M.I.S.T). He gained a Higher National Certificate in Building and became a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Building in1973.
He worked for the family Plastering Business of James Cadman & Son Limited for 5 years before being Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1955 and serving in Far East with the Royal Engineers. He joined the T.A. in 1956 and retired in 1969 at the rank of Major; he was awarded the Territorial Decoration ifM969.
Rodney rejoined the family business in 1956 and became its Managing Director in 1967 and Chairman two years later. He married Birgit Resmann of Copenhagen, Denmark in 1958 and they have two children, Michael James and Lisa Ann.
Rodney played Rugby Union for Broughton Park R.U.F.C. and Eccles R.U.F.C., supports Swinton R.L.F.C. and is a member Lancashire County Cricket Club. He is Interested in all outdoor sports and now enjoys fell walking in the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District and completed the Pennine Way 1997 and Coast to Coast Walk 1998, Dalesway 1999, Ribbleway 2000, Offas Dyke 2002 and 2003, Hadrians Wall 2003 and 2004, Cumbrian Way 2004 and 2005 and the South West Coast Way 2005 and 2006.
Rodney joined Swinton Rotary Club in 1967 and was its President 1978/79. He was President of Manchester, Salford and District Building Trades Employer Association 1972; President of National Federation of Plastering Contractors 1974; Liveryman of Worshipful Company of Plasterers, London 1963 and remains interesting in all aspects of Industrial and Youth Training. He was sworn as Justice of the Peace, March 1983 and was Chairman of Salford Magistrates Court Advisory Committee 1996-2002.
He became a Deputy-Lieutenant Greater Manchester July 1998.
