William Egerton Esq. JP DL

William EgertonBill was born in 1944 and has been married to Maureen for over 50 years. They have one son and a granddaughter.

Bill has spent much of his working life in local politics and served the people of Manchester in a number of roles not least that of the City's Lord Mayor in 1992/3. He was a City Councillor for 28 years during which time Bill has been Leader of Manchester City Council from 1982 - 1984 and Chairman of a number of Council Committees such as Land and Development; Education Sub-Committee; Policy and Finance and Regeneration and Deputy of the Ship Canal Company.

Bill was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1985 and served as Chairman of Manchester Magistrates Bench for three years. He has served as Chairman North Manchester NHS Healthcare Trust; Director North Manchester NHS Healthcare Trust; a Member North West Lottery Board; Director Manchester Science Park; Director Manchester World Trade Centre; Director Manchester Airports Board; Director Air & Space Museum; Greater Manchester Police authority and a member of the Salford Division's Committee for Social Responsibility in RC Dioces of Salford.

He was appointed an Honorary Alderman City of Manchester in 2007 and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant Greater Manchester in 2004; Chairman of Governors, St Peter's High School, Manchester and St Willibrand's Primary, Manchester and Deputy Chairman, St Anne's Ancoats RC Primary School and is a Member and is a trustee of various charitable trusts in the city.

He was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in March 2013.
