What does the Freedom of a Borough actually mean?

The Honorary Freedom of any of our Metropolitan Boroughs is the highest honour, or award, that the Council can bestow. It is normally conferred upon people, and occasionally organisations, that have made an eminent and distinguished conttribution to the life of the borough.

This award reflects the esteem and thanks of the wider community and it is presented at a special in the respective Town Hall. The Lieutenancy is proud to say that we have a number of our Deputy Lieutenants who have been recognised in this way.
