Major Edmund T Gartside TD DL MA

Edmund GartsideEdmund was Chairman of the Oldham based Shiloh Group of companies from 1966 - 2004. He steered the group through the contraction and, ultimately, elimination of the UK cotton spinning industry and converted it into an expanding healthcare business until its sale in 2005.

He represented the textile industry on many organisations at local, national, European and international level being President of Eurocoton, the Brussels based body representing the European cotton sector industry, from 1985 -1987.

Edmund was on the Council of the Institute of Directors for many years, and Chairman of the Manchester branch. He became High Sheriff of Greater Manchester from 1995 -96, and is a past Governor of Manchester Grammar School, a former member of the Manchester University Court, and is currently a Commissioner of Taxes.  Edmund was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester in 1990.

Edmund served in the Lancashire Fusiliers, commanding a TA company in Rochdale, and is currently a member of the Lancashire Area Council of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, and a Director of the Fusiliers Museum in Bury.
