Col. Donald E Gibbs CBE TD JP DL

Born in Manchester in 1926 he attended Queen Elizabeth Grammer School in Middleton. He joined the Army in 1943, commissioned in 1945 he joined the South Lancashire Regiment and was seconded to the 10th Baluch Regiment, Indian Army where he served until partician in 1947.  He joined the TA in 1948 and retired in 1975, he commanded the 8th Manchester Regiment and was appointed TA Colonel NW District and ADC to HM The Queen. In 1968 he became a Magistrate and was Chairman of the Juvenile Bench for four years. He was Honorary Colonel for 156 Transport Regiment RCT from 1974-1988.

Chairman for Broughton House, home for disabled ex Service Personnel 1975-1977 he became Chief Executive from 1977 to 2008 and Life Vice President to date.

Awarded the Territorial Decoration in 1958 and the CBE in 1971. He became a Deputy Lieutenant in 1974.

He was High Sheriff for Greater Manchester 1981-82.

A Widower with two children, although once a keen sportsman  he now enjoys watching from the sidelines.
