Lt. Cdr. Kevin M. Heakin RD RNR DL
Kevin was born in 1943 the eldest of nine children, having four brothers and four sisters. Kevin is father to Daniel, Sarah, Robert, Stephen and Lauren. He was educated at Salford Cathedral School and De La Salle Grammar School before completing teacher training at Hopwood Hall, Middleton, Manchester from 1964 to 1967. Currently Kevin is teaching maths to Key Stage three excluded pupils and employed by Salford LEA.
Kevin has been a member of the Royal Naval Reserve from 1974 to 1992; he joined as a Probationary Radio Operator, Third class, and worked through to become Lieutenant Commander and in Command of HMS SALFORD from 1987 to 1992 where he specialised in Communications and Naval Control of Shipping. Whilst at sea Kevin spent time on HM Ships Pollington, Lewiston, Crofton, Laleston, Keddleston, Wooton and Peterel.
Kevin is President of the Royal Naval Association (Salford Branch), a Committee member of the King George Fund for Sailors and Chairman of the Manchester Committee from 1999 to 2004. He is Vice President of the Salford Sea Cadets Unit - TS ILEX and Reviewing Officer (in rotation with Army/Air Force) Salford Remembrance Sunday. He remains a member of Manchester Naval Officers Association.
Kevin was appointed Deputy Lieutenant 2002.
