David McGovern DL

David has worked and been a volunteer in his local community for most of his adult life and has volunteered for a number of Charities in that time. He has been a volunteer for Manchester’s LGBT Foundation for twelve years, starting work on the helpline in 2003. In the time since he has become a Trustee, briefly serving as the Company Secretary, before going on to be elected as Chair of the Board in 2007. David has thirty years of experience in both the Public and Non-Profit sectors, with the later fifteen of these at a senior level.

He is currently a Senior Manager in the Housing sector and is a recognised expert on Governance and Organisation Improvement/Development.

In 2010, he was awarded an Honorary Degree by The University of Salford for his work on LGBT issues and named Charity Chair of the Year at The Third Sector National Awards in 2013. In 2016 he was awarded an Honorary ‘Hero’ Award at the LGBT Foundation awards ceremony for his contribution to the LGBT Community. He lives in his beloved Salford with his husband Darren, and their dog Punch.
