The Lord-Lieutenant would like to congratulate all the Greater Manchester recipients of Honours in the New Year's Honours List. The list is the best that Greater Manchester has ever had and this would not be possible without the people taking the time to nominate these extraordinary recipients whom he would also like to particularly thank. KNIGHTS BATCHELOR

Knighthoods

A Knighthood is given to a person who has demonstrated a pre-eminent contribution in any field of activity (usually, but not exclusively, at national level), or in a capacity which will be recognised by peer groups as inspirational and significant nationally and demonstrates sustained commitment. The following person has been awarded a Knighthood.

THE ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE

Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)

A CBE is awarded to a person who has held a prominent national role of a lesser degree, a conspicuous leading role in regional affairs through achievement or service to the community, or a highly distinguished, innovative contribution in his or her area of activity. Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

An OBE is given to someone who has demonstrated a distinguished regional or county-wide role in any field, through achievement or service to the community including notable practitioners known nationally. The following people have been awarded and OBE.
