The Princess Royal visited The FabLab in Ardwick as part of her nationwide tour as President, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conferences. She met young school children and young entrepreneurs who used the building to develop their own ideas for technology. After hearing a lecture and sharing some food she made a short speech encouraging all present to continue the vital work of innovative design and development.
Princess Anne move on to visit Manchester City Football Club and to see some of the community work that the club is involved in. She first met a group of former offenders who had benefitted by being involved in what the club had to offer before moving on to the outdoor sports pitches. HRH observed games of ‘Walking Football’ involving older members of the community, ‘disabled football’ that involved wheelchair users. She also met some of the newly formed MCFC Women’s Team. HRH then entered the centre and was presented with a football shirt to mark her visit to the Club.
HRH’s final destination was Private White VC – a clothing manufacturer in Salford. Private White is a family business that produces clothing for a number of major high street outlets. The Princess was taken on a tour of the building where she met long serving members of staff as well as graduate trainees before finishing her tour in the company shop. During her visit a coat had been specially made for her and this was presented by the Managing Director, James Eden.
