Major James A Ormiston MBE TD DL

Jim is a Cumbrian by birth.  He joined the Regular Army with forays to Italy and Africa.  His home postings included Brigade Major, Lancastrian Brigade and also Adjutant of the Army School of Physical Training at Aldershot.  A former paratrooper who later joined the Territorial Army.

In his civilian life Jim worked for the Building Society industry and also served the community as the Chief Commandant of The Greater Manchester Special Constabulary. He is a member of the Military Historical Society and serves on a number of Committees associated with both the military and the Police.

Jim was created a Member of the Order of the British Empire and holds the Territorial Decoration. He is a frequent speaker throughout the Northwest on various subjects in particular the Victoria and George Crosses.  He is a strong suporter of Broughton House the premier home in the Northwest for disabled ex-Servicemen and Merchant Seamen and donates the proceeds of his talks to this worthy cause.

Jim was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant in 1990.  He is married to Maureen and they have two daughters, Melanie and Victoria, and a granddaughter, Alexandra.  He is now happily retired and enjoys matorised rambling, fishing and messing about in boats is very much the menu these days.
