Col. Stan Spackman KStJ TD DL
Colonel Stan Spackman, born in Surrey in 1937, was brought up in Suffolk. National Service was in the Middlesex Regiment, commissioned in the East Surrey Regiment. He served in the Territorial Army from 1966 to 1991, commanded 162 MC Regiment RCT(V) from 1982 to 1985 and was Colonel of Volunteers Royal Corps of Transport 1988 to 1991. From 1989 to 1991 he was ADC TA to HM The Queen.
His civilian career was largely in HM Customs & Excise, finally as Deputy Collector Manchester.
He commanded Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force from 1992 to 1996 and was Chairman of the tri-service North West Cadet Committee from 1996 to 2004. He was a Vice-Chairman of the North West Reserve Forces and Cadets Association from 2000 to 2004.
From 1996 to 2002 he commanded St John Ambulance Greater Manchester and represented Northern England on the St John Priory Council from 1996 to 2002. He was a member of Priory Chapter from 2002 to 2005 and has been Assistant Chief Commander since 2003.
He is a Knight of Grace of the Order of St John and a Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. He holds the Territorial Decoration with two bars.
Stan was appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant in 1997.
