Mike Walmsley MBE DL

Mike Walmsley is an Operations Manager for Willmott Dixon Construction. He began his career as a Graduate Manager after studying Construction Management at the University of Salford. During his 15 years with the business, he has been responsible for the delivery of numerous projects across the region including leisure centres, care homes & schools. He received a Construction Manager of the Year Gold medal in 2016 for his project, Royton Leisure Centre.
Mike holds the rank of Chief Officer for the Greater Manchester Police. He joined as a Special Constable in 2003 after being inspired by his late father, Dave. He rose through the ranks working mainly around North Manchester, reaching Chief Officer in 2013. He now has responsibility for over 300 warranted volunteer police officers and is part of the Force Leadership Team.
He was awarded the Special Constabulary Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 2012. Under his leadership, the team were awarded the Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service in 2018.
In 2018, following a successful construction project for The Birtenshaw Group, Mike was asked and became a Trustee. Birtenshaw are a charity based in Bolton who transform the lives of children and young adults with significant physical impairment, complex health needs, learning disability and / or Autistic Spectrum Conditions. He also sits on the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee.
After witnessing the care that St Ann’s Hospice provided for his Nanna, he was honoured to join their Board in 2020 as a Co-opted Trustee. Mike will be supporting the team with their future estate plans.
Mike was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours 2020 for Services to Policing.
In his spare time, he plays golf, enjoys running and going to the gym. Mike supports Manchester United and likes watching motorsport.
