In the summer, the Sovereign traditionally hosts three Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace, and one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland. Historically, Garden Parties took the place of presentation parties attended by debutantes, and have evolved into a way of recognising and rewarding public service.

Throughout the country, a long established network of sponsors is used to invite guests, which includes Lord-Lieutenants, Societies and Associations, Government Departments, Local Government, the Services, the Church and other Faiths. It is not possible to acquire invitations to The King’s Garden Parties through direct application to Buckingham Palace.
In Greater Manchester the Lord-Lieutenant has established a local committee in each of our ten metropolitan boroughs and at the end of each year all the nominations for their area are considered and they select a number to put forward for an invitation. The committees are especially interested to know of any voluntary and charitable work carried out by the person being nominated.

Should you wish to nominate someone please complete the nomination form, a link to which is below, and return it to the Lieutenancy Office, preferably via email to office@gmlo.org Once received, it will be passed onto the appropriate committee for them to include in their deliberations for attendees to a future Garden Party.
Please note, to avoid any possible disappointment, it is important that the person being nominated must not be aware of their nomination.
