Like Lord-Lieutenants, Deputy Lieutenants retire at age 75 at the latest. They should also not continue if, before reaching age 75, they cease to be able to undertake Lieutenancy duties or move outside the area or county. Any DL who retires may be permitted by the Lord-Lieutenant to retain the post-nominal letters “DL”.
