The Metropolitan Borough of Oldham embraces Lancashire and the Old West Riding of Yorkshire and contains within its boundaries Chadderton, Royton, Shaw, part of Failsworth and Saddleworth.
Formerly a cotton town, Oldham’s economy is now diverse including High Tech engineering and service industries. Oldham’s Town Centre is a shoppers’ haven with an array of shops, a shopping mall and a traditional market.
Oldham’s green spaces are some of the best in the country. From historic public parks to wooded river valleys and Pennine Moorland, there’s something for the whole family. The Oldham Mountain Rescue Team support the area and keep people safe, staffed with fantastic volunteers who were awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2019.
There is culture to be enjoyed at the new Art Gallery and Library and the Coliseum Theatre as well as all kinds of music from Chamber to Brass Band provided by the Metropolitan Music Centre, various Brass Bands, Chamber Concert societies and Choral societies.
