After graduating from the University of Manchester with a joint honours degree in History and French, Rebecca qualified as a teacher. She has taught French and History up to A-level and is now working as Director of Learning for Humanities at Oulder Hill Leadership Academy in Rochdale – a job she really enjoys. She loves being in the classroom and working with the pupils, helping them to develop as learners and active citizens. Believing that enrichment is a vital part of education, she has led numerous History trips to Berlin, the Battlefields of Ypres and the D-Day beaches of Normandy.
Rebecca’s real passion is remembrance and encouraging pupils to understand the legacy of war and, in particular, the importance of the Rochdale soldiers who sacrificed so much. Her work with the school has led to a national prize from the Institute of Education, affiliation to the Royal British Legion and attendance at the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph on Whitehall, London. She leads the annual Remembrance services in school and, through fundraising and networking, has helped raise money to create a Remembrance Garden in school.
Outside the classroom, Rebecca has been happily married since 2004 and has two teenage children as well as a beautiful dog. She enjoys fundraising for Springhill Hospice both with school and family and has also coordinated a sacramental programme for children in her parish.
Family and friends are very important to her, and she enjoys spending time with them, going to concerts and the theatre and travelling.
Rebecca was commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant in 2024.
